We the Fans of the St. Louis Rams, in Order to form a more perfect Football Team, establish a Winning Tradition, insure use of the Running Game, provide for the common (and bolstered) defense, promote the level of Special Teams play, and secure the Blessings of the Playoffs to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Petition for the Fans of the St. Louis Rams.
When in the Course of the football season, it becomes necessary for one team's fan base to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another... a decent respect to the opinions of Reasonable Fans requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that Mike Martz ia a Moron, that all fans are created equal, that they are endowed by their Team with certain unalienable expectations, that among these are a Good Offense, Solid Defense and the pursuit of the Playoffs. --That to secure these rights, Coaches are instituted among Players, deriving their just powers from the approval of the Fans, --That whenever any Coaching Staff becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the Fans to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Coaching Staffs, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Dignity and Playoff Hopes.
Common Sense, indeed, will dictate that Coaching Staffs long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that Fans are more disposed to suffer, while Losses are sufferable, than to right themselves by Firing the Coaches to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of Poor Plays Called and Idiotic Challenges, pursuing invariably the same Object brings about a Game Plan to reduce them to an under .500 team, it is a fan's right, it is their duty, to throw off such Coaching Staffs, and to provide new Coaches for their future seasons.
—Such has been the patient sufferance of these Rams Fans; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Coaching Staff. The history of the present Head Coach of the Rams [Mike Martz] is a history of repeated injuries to the team and critical mistakes on the sidelines, all having as a direct result the establishment of a tradition of Under-performance for this team. To prove this, let The Case be submitted to a candid world.
